Miss Chan is an experienced psychiatric nurse. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Nursing from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She earned her Master's degree in Health Promotion from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine with a scholarship from the Croucher Foundation.
Throughout her clinical practice, she has pursued advanced professional training in several specialized areas, including Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing at the Hospital Authority, Chinese Medicine at the University of Hong Kong, Behavioral Sleep Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Cognitive Therapy at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Psychiatric Rehabilitation Recovery at Yale University.
Previously, she worked as a Nurse Consultant in Community Psychiatry, where she led multidisciplinary teams to provide community-based mental health care. Her key responsibilities encompassed direct clinical care with quality assurance and development, staff training, clinical research, and public consultancy services. Demonstrating innovation, she established a pioneering psychiatric nurse clinic specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia. This was the first clinic of its kind in Hong Kong and received local accreditation.
In addition, she is a frequent speaker at seminars, universities, and international conferences. Her presentations have been recognized with awards, including the Outstanding Presentation Award at the 12th Pacific Rim College of Psychiatrists Scientific Meeting and the Award for Excellent Scientific Achievement at a World Psychiatric Association Regional Meeting.
Currently, Miss Chan serves as a Mental Health Care Consultant for various non-governmental organizations and is a Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Community Health Practitioners. She also frequently acts as a guest lecturer for multiple universities and organizations, including the Social Welfare Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Ms. Connie Miu
After graduating from Brookwood Hospital in the UK in 1977 and becoming a registered psychiatric nurse, she returned to Hong Kong and began working at United Christian Hospital. In 1984, she was recommended by the hospital to pursue a diploma in Community Health Nursing at the North East London Polytechnic (now part of the University of East London), dedicating herself to the development and expansion of psychiatric community nursing services in Hong Kong. Later, in 1997, she obtained a Master's degree in Healthcare Management from the University of Swansea in the UK.
Over her more than 30-year career as a psychiatric nurse, she has worked in various settings, including community nursing departments, psychiatric wards, specialist outpatient clinics, and day hospitals, serving adults, children, and adolescents. In 1995, she was promoted to Ward Manager, responsible for managing healthcare services.
Between 2008 and 2010, she completed a Professional Counselling Certificate Program jointly organized by the Hong Kong Satir Centre for Human Development and the Pacific Satir Institute. After graduation, she became a volunteer counsellor at the centre. Since 2013, she has actively participated as a volunteer group instructor in Satir Model Systemic Transformational Therapy personal growth courses.
Ms. Katie Lau
Ms. Lau holds a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Ballarat in Australia. Since becoming a registered psychiatric nurse in 1975, she was appointed as a nursing officer in 1979 and later promoted to ward manager. She has worked in various institutions, including Castle Peak Hospital, South Kwai Chung Psychiatric Centre, and United Christian Hospital, serving in multiple departments such as psychiatric wards, psychiatric clinics, child and adolescent units, psychogeriatric, and day hospital units. Additionally, she has served as a clinical instructor in university nursing programs, sharing over thirty years of psychiatric nursing experience with the new generation of healthcare professionals.
